Week 11: Quiz

Black Author Research Presentations

HW: AR 60% by the end of spring break-book projects due April 5th

We all walked in to Ms. Nakada's third period English directly after second period, because today was a short day. Adrian almost walked to nutrition though. We all sat down and got out our binder reminders and wrote the agenda and homework. After that, Zurie and Giana went up to read their blog that they did together, which was just spectacular. Zurie then walked back to her seat, and did ene minie minie mo between me and Violette for whose doing the next blog. She picked me, as I packed my stuff up and sat down to write the blog. I will be reading this blog in a while though as next week is spring break, and we have the following Monday off. We then settled down into reader's workshop, where Ms. Nakada said that it was okay if we used this time to finish our Black Author Projects. She also went around the room to check everyone's reading journals.

Ms. Nakada's booming outrages voice broke the silence as she told us to log onto Schoology to take the week 11 Quiz. She then broke the silence once again to tell us to move with our partners for our Black Author Projects. The class erupted into chatter. Otem then came up to me and made very weird noises and Ms. Nakada's booming voice told us to start was we had limited time left. Everyone frantically started doing their Black Author Projects.

The bell then rang early, as today was a short day. We all packed up and headed to nutrition.

Adrian I will not pick you,

Zurie's Fourth Blog... and Giana

Agenda

-take a minute⏰

-blog corrections✅

-reader's workshop📖

-Black Author's Project/Presentations🎬

HW: RJ 11.4 iReady (2 lessons) read, IXl, or iReady 20-30 minutes✏

Today's English class began with everyone sitting down in their seats and writing down the agenda. Ms. Nakada played the take a minute video. Then, Rami read their awesome blog and even played a short video for us that had a very naughty word in it. After that, Rami had to choose between me and Zurie, but there were people in the class that suggested that we should just do it together. We both walked up to the isolated desk in the front of the class and started to type away. For some reason, we developed a system on taking turns to write a sentence.

Reader's workshop then started. The class was very silent for about five minutes, until I heard something. Giana let out the loudest, most powerful, and smelly fart I've ever heard in my life. The floor started shaking. The walls were crumbling. Then Charles walked in! Barely surviving Giana's volcanic fart.🔥🔥🔥🚒

After that disaster, Ms. Nakada started going over the criteria for our presentations that are due tomorrow (or today). She goes over how we should use the pink paper so we can be graded on our presentations by our parents. The rest of the period was dedicated to finishing up our projects. I turned around to see what was happening, and I was watching Marcus very closely. He was very close to his computer screen, locked in, and working alone, with sweat dripping from his forehead and his nose. Noa and Emily started presenting their presentation to Jessica directly behind us, when we heard a super scary voice coming from the back of the class... "Hello, my friends!"😜 Coming from an unknown horrific voice.

While everyone was working, I overheard Emily randomly talking about someone being picked up and thrown, or something like that. When I was politely working on our Black Author Project, Giana kept talking about food and how hungry she was. She started talking about how her stomach was vibrating, and how she loves vegetables so much. Then, Zurie started to rant about how disgusting burgers are and she will never eat them again.

"She's lying, I love buhguhs."- Zurie❤

Before the bell rung, Ms. Nakada was talking about how we should add a proper bibliography into our presentations, and to make sure that every source is in alphabetical order. Everyone was working and talking, until Ms. Nakada told us to pack up our things. The bell went ding ding ding, and we were dismissed to go to fourth period.

HW:

RJ 11.3- iReady (2 lessons), read, IXL, or iReady 20-30 minutes

First off- Sammy is a real one. They even apologized to me for selecting me for the blog. Secondly, Charles is admirable for going out of his way to select Eli for the previous blog, and I thank him for that.

Sammy begins to read the blog, but stops halfway because they can't really see it, so Ms. Nakada picks up where they left off. I'll have to text Devin later about Ms. Nakada attempting to say "gyatt," and tell them that if they want to experience such joys, they must attend school.

I have the plushie Sammy called 'What The Gyatt' sitting across from me, peering into my soul as I write about its presence. (I've written down gyatt three times now- what's happening to me?)

Ms. Nakada announces to the class that they'll be writing down the lines of the week. Her announcement was followed by exasperated groans and sighs.

She talks about the author, Emily Dickinson, and how she wasn't allowed to write poems.

We talk about how Nobody is capitalized, showing that Nobody is somebody. And now Somebody is capitalized to show that Somebody is somebody.

Just listening to this poem and thinking about the punctuation feels... messy almost.

Ms. Nakada says that E. Dickinson wants to be Nobody, as in unknown and not famous, and is looking for someone who wants to be Nobody along with her. Being Somebody, as in being noticeable or famous, means she has no privacy and has to smile to please these strangers.

I think. Maybe.

ELI IS ACTIVELY BULLYING ME AND MAKING WEIRD NOISES!

Anyway, I'm signing off! These are my departing words,

My Departing Words--> (don't worry this clip is ok to play) [but it's really not].

"What the Gyatt."- Sammy

week 11 QQSL

Black Author Projects

HW- RJ 11.2 iReady (2 lessons) read, IXL, or iReady 20-30 minutes

I walked into class and sat in my seat like it was a normal day. Devin was gone again as usual (damn you Devin) and wrote my agenda down like normal. I expected Ms. Nakada in her booming voice to read Devin's blog but apparently Charles was reading today, his voice reminds me of a broken violin that was being played by a toddler. I'm very very glad Devin isn't here because they for sure would've picked me. As Charles read the blog I continued doodling in my agenda not expecting to get picked. After the blog was read, Charles got to pick someone. We were all asked to raise hands for who hasn't and even though I hadn't done the blog, I did not raise my hand, so I didn't have to be picked. But because no one was really raising hands Ms Nakada did the thing I dreaded. She went through who did their fourth blogs and had us all stand up, as she read names they sat down. Until only about four people were left standing (I didn't count) Charles looked at me mischievously, and I immediately pointed to Rami who was also standing. Rami pointed back at me. He looked at the both of us as I think Alejandro exclaimed to pick me for no reason. Charles then started to do meenie mini mo (I also don't know how to spell that ) and landed on Rami. I wave of relief went through me until he paused and decided to keep going ?? Until I was chosen. Damn you Charles. I angrily shook my first at Rami and went to grab my things to do the fourth blog. It was readers workshop by now and the class was mostly quiet.

Ms. Nakada said the names of the people who haven't done iReady yet. All I could really hear was the clacking of my keyboard. It was quiet until we started talking about our song of the week, "Like a Girl" by Lizzo. Which has many many words of profanity, each of which Ms Nakada said sorry for. I still just sit here very saddened by my situation of writing this blog. After listening to the song we started talking about what the song is about. One of the first things we talked about was how she said she'd "wake up and decide to be president" which relates to how there has never been a female president. Also, talking about how she talks about how women could do everything for themselves. One of the lyrics even relates to TLC an all girl band, and many other things like beauty standards and how people tell others they "throw like a girl" or stuff like that as an insult. We looked through all the references and lyrics breaking down what they could mean. I, in fact, did not have a favorite lyric.  All I could think about is how I was deliberately chosen by Charles, and have to write this wretched blog.

Ms. Nakada asked about what people think this song is about and for some reason everyone went quiet for a minute. Until eventually people started talking. Mostly everyone agreed on it being about women's empowerment and how they can do things themselves. As everyone talked all I could really do is stare at the whiteboard in front of me. But gladly Sammy gave me a plushie of theirs for company who has many many names, some of which are "what the gyatt" "Ryan" and other things I forgot. There was suddenly noise in the hallway and Ms Nakada went to check as I wondered what was happening out there. I longed to be in my normal seat. Ms Nakada came back and told us about options and things we could do for our Black Author Projects. I was hoping to do a slideshow but my partner for the project is almost never here for no apparent reason (damn you Devin) Ms Nakada allowed us to get into groups and I continued sorrowfully writing this blog, in pain due to Akira breaking my ribs yesterday. Rami came to sit with me and I finally had company, which was swiftly interrupted by the bell. Darn it. I threw "what the Gyatt" or "Ryan" I have no idea which one it is back to Sammy, packed up and went to fourth period. Also, happy birthday Issac

Black Author Projects

HW: RJ 11.1 iReady (2 lessons) then read, or IXL or iReady for 20 - 30 minutes.

After nutrition, we walked up to third period waited outside for Ms. Nakada to give us our new seats. Once everyone sat down, Ms. Nakada played this week's take a minute. I wasn't paying much attention to it since I was writing the agenda down. After the video was over, Ms. Nakada pulled up Rin's blog from last Thursday. After Ms. Nakada was done reading, Rin picked me. I solemnly walked over to the computer and set my stuff down (I'm honestly surprised I wasn't picked sooner).

After that, Ms. Nakada brought up the school survey that everyone had to do, but a couple people hadn't done yet. We then started reader's workshop. Once that was over, we took out our English notebooks and many exclaimed how cold it was.

As I write down this week's QQSL, I debate calling one of my parents to pick me up since my nose feels like leaking pipe. This week's quote is by Mother Jones. She's an Irish American union activist, and she's talking about how people are stronger together than they are when we are apart. After the quote, we discussed the question of the week. Would you want to be famous? In what way? There are parts of me that would enjoy being famous, but, generally, I wouldn't want to be famous due to the insane lack of privacy and freedom. It would also probably get to my head. Many people agreed with me. We talked about people like the Kardashians and a couple famous athletes as an example. We finished the discussion and continued our Black Author Projects.

Eli spelled things wrong and bullied me. Finally, the bell rang and third period was over.

Akira beat us up, broke our ribs, fractured out arms. My skull is broken in several areas, and I most definitely have brain damage. ** sarcastic font **

"Ur mom." -Eli Thanks. That's really cool.

Week 10: Q.Q.S.L/Quiz

Black Author Projects

Homework:

MB2 tomorrow, bring lunch/snacks

I walk towards Ms. Nakada's classroom, standing next to Leo in the hall. As I wait for Ms. Nakada to let us in, I turn around and am jump-scared by Niko rizzing up Leo. It was very scary. I threw my sun pillow at Niko and he walks away. As I walk into Ms. Nakada's class I have a feeling Lucas will choose me for the blog, and I'm right. After he reads his blog he picks me, and I walk over to the lonely blog table and start writing. As soon as I do, Milan calls my name and tells me that she wants to be included.

Everyone goes silent for reader's workshop. The space bar key on this computer is very loud when no one is talking, so I try to type as quietly as I can. We all continue reading until Ms. Nakada passes out the lines for the week and tells us to transition into Q.Q.S.L. Riley reads through the poem, which is "How to Triumph Like a Girl" by Ada Limon. After Riley is done reading, Milan reads through it too. Then the whole class reads through it a few times. After we read, we discuss what the poem is about. Ms. Nakada says it's comparing the heart, speed, smarts, and power of a horse to women and girls.

After we're done with the lines for the week, we take out Chromebooks for the week 10 quiz. Riley and Milan walk over to grab a Chromebook since they didn't bring one. I ask Milan if she wants to write something so she does:

Hello class this is Milan taking over P.S. Declan, stop growling please I'm scared for my life right now.

Ms. Nakada says my name, trying to tell me to start my quiz. I turn around when I hear my name and see Ronan spacing out, probably thinking about his intense love for Deku, until he is interrupted by Ms. Nakada telling him to submit the quiz.

When everyone is done with their quizzes, we start working on our black author projects. I forgot my research paper thing so I don't really know what to do.

After a while of working on our projects, the bell rings and we head off to fourth period.

Reader's Workshop

Week 10 QQSL

Lit Circles

HW: RJ 10.3 Read IXL or Iready

Hello Class,

I walked into class with a smile on my face. Otem was laughing about running for President for Prime Time. Otem will probably win because of that signature Otem Devilish Charm! We talk about how Otem will set his regime over prime time and take over by dealing with the devil. I think about how much I want to do the blog, and I look over at Janeth. Janeth goes up and reads her blog. It's filled with Alejandro's high pitched voice, and Milan taking over the blog. Janeth asks who hasn't done the blog yet, and I beg to be chosen. I was sick the week I was probably going to be picked, but better late then never! I walk up triumphantly to the lone, chilly, icy desk at the front of the classroom, and I hear voices.

"No!!!!" Alejandro screams in his signature high pitched voice.

"Make sure you include me," Eli and Milan chime in. The class is slowly receding after a little bit of chatter. Ms. Nakada begins talking about some kind of waiver. Otem comes over to breathe on me. Ethan comes over to blow his nose and he taps my screen a bunch, putting in a bunch of mistakes. I look over, and I see Leo's beautiful blue eyes, reminding me of a warm summer August day when I was four and without any worries. Ms. Nakada starts talking about the awesome sub we had yesterday. In my opinion, he was pretty nice. I look over and I see Alejandro and his long hair, putting away his binder reminder. I'm so full of energy, and I'm jotting down everything I see. Most kids are reading now. I can't see much, but Alejandro is reading The Book Thief. I never read that book before is it good? I look around and I see Leo stroking his hair while reading Just Mercy. Oh how his hair is the complete opposite of Otem's with it's beautiful braids and its long and luscious curls. I misspell so many words, but I don't care. I hear Ms. Nakada talk about some kind of waiver and Otem chimes in, with his uncomfortable voice.

The clock is ticking and the room is silent, as I continue typing away. We begin to get into the song of the week "The Man" by Taylor Swift. I actually like some of Taylor Swift's music, but the class is arguing. It's about country music and kids are arguing about if Taylor Swift is hot garbage or a respectable singer. I honestly think she's a ruthless businessperson with her many bodyguards and a team of respectable buisnessmen. Ms. Nakada starts talking about how people shout out of turn and begins to play the song. It starts upbeat with words like "I'm so sick of running as fast as I can." Pop is actually my favorite genre and this song is very reminiscent of that. I hear a line about wanting to be like Leo. I mean everyone wants to be like Leo, with his bulging muscles and husky voice. I hear Taylor Swift say bad words. Ms. Nakada ends the song abruptly. We talk about how the song is about dating and how dating is different for men and women. Akira talks about some of the differences about dating, that I forgot to write down. Otem is not paying attention and reading in the back. He looks very bored and not fond of the conversation. Poor Otem. Marcus talks about male privileges and how women have to try harder to get to the same spot. Ms. Nakada talks about how there were rumors about our old female principle and how people spread rumors that she did unsavory things to get into office. Ms. Nakada talks about the Leo in the story, and how it's not Leo, but Leonardo DeCaprio. I think they're both equal in terms of muscle and beauty. We talk about how DeCaprio and his taste for the younger side of women and how she breaks up with women once they get old. We talk about how Leonardo DeCaprio was hot, but now he isn't. We talk more about the song and what it's about.

I'm beginning to feel hungry as I thirst for lunch. I think about Science and how we did these awesome posters! I wish we could do posters for English, that would be fun! Otem scrumps up behind me. Milan and Eli come up and ask how's it going. Adrian sits next to me and Juan is coming too. I say hello and I let Juan take control for a bit.

Juan: hello (something silly)

That's Juan folks! Haha, what a funny guy. Ethan pulls my hood over my head twice, and we talk about what page we're on. Ethan keeps pulling my hood over my head and I begin to get annoyed. We talk about Anne Frank's Diary and talk about what our prediction will be. The book is almost ending! Adrian and Juan talk about the photo I just put into the blog. I haven't even written the title yet! Leo and Otem are reading together, and I hear someone laughing really loudly.  The class erupts in chatter, as I think about my word count. I hope I could write just as much as Leo. I begin to zone out and get into the blog. Juan asks me to search up what oversock is. I get a bit confused as they beg me to search it up. I hear Charles say my name, and I turn around instinctively. The bell rings and we head off to fourth period. Sorry Ms. Nakada for all the spelling mistakes! Thanks for listening to me rant for a while. Milan and Riley ask to be included one more time and I hear Alejandro ask how's it going. Otem and his massive bright forehead greet a soft farewell to my blog.

 AGENDA:

Take a minute

reader's workshop

Week 10: QQSL

Literature circles

Homework: RJ 10.1 Read, IXL, or iReady for 20-30 minutes

As we all come from nutrition, we take a seat. The first thing that is mentioned is Charles' new haircut. I haven't seen it but I doubt it looks as bad as they say. As the news gets old we all take out our Binder Reminders and write down the Agenda. I was writing the Agenda down when all of the sudden I remember who was doing the blog, Omar.  I take a quick glance at him and I try to comfort myself. I was hoping he wouldn't pick me.  We were supposed to change our seats but were delayed to tomorrow.

As the class started to quiet down we took a minute and talked about what it was about. It was mostly about happiness but I'm not sure since I wasn't really paying attention. Omar walked all drowsily to the front and started reading his blog. Ms. Nakada started to  fix all of his spelling mistakes. When he finished reading of course he picked me. (Thanks a lot Declan! I WILL NEVER FORGIVE YOU FOR THIS!) I packed all my stuff and headed to the front. That's when I heard Alejandro's high-pitched voice. He told me that I should include someone, who I am not mentioning, in the blog. That's when Eli screamed," What?"

I then got interrupted by Ms. Nakada's deep scary voice forcing us to take out our Reading Journals to set up our notebooks. We sadly had to obey. That's when Charles told Ms. Nakada that Ronan kept on laughing at him about his hair. I think I'm not so sure. She then took them out to have a little conversation with them. While she was doing that the whole class started to talk. She came inside and finished writing inside her journal. We then transitioned to reader's workshop. While the whole class got silent all you could hear was my typing.

After what seemed like forever we transitioned into QQSL. We wrote down the quote by Alice Walker, "No one is your friend who demands your silence or denies your right to grow." The quote was about how real friends won't force you to do anything you don't want to do.  A real friend won't bring you down.  A real friend will help you grow and help you and will motivate you to tell the truth.

We then started talking about the question. What does gender equity look like in schools? We brought up about how sports have an all girls team, boys team, or co-ed teams. The grading for the PE State Testing is also about gender. We had a huge conversation about the school dress code. How girls can't wear ripped jeans because it would be "distracting" to the boys. It is always targeted toward the girls and never tells the boys anything. For example if a girl were to bring a tank top they would be dress coded. If a boy were to wear a tank top they would get compliments and not get in trouble. She then pulled out a period one and period five list of all the people who talked over Ms. Nakada. Mostly all the boys were talking while on the other hand, not including Ms. Nakada only two to four people were talking. I think it is mostly because girls were taught to be respectful. We closed up the conversation and moved into literature circles.

As we moved into literature circles, Alejandro came to taunt me and ask me about the blog.

"Hi, this is Declan taking over. Milan is trying to take the computer."

"Hello there, this is Milan taking over. Declan, no one is trying to take the computer but so you stop  snatching!" I say as Declan aggressively tries to take the computer from me! Meanwhile Marcus has his phone out and is saying I have mine out. MS. NAKADA KEEP AN EYE OUT! - Milan

The bell rang and we all headed to fourth period. (ALEJANDRO I SWEAR!)

P.S: Your Majesty and Alejandro, I will take my revenge.

Week 9 Quiz

Conducting / Publishing Research

Homework- Enjoy your weekend

The day started of as we walked into the classroom and took a seat. The class started writing down the agenda in their binder reminders. Ms. Nakada put on the take a minute and while it was on I wrote down the agenda. I didn't expect to be chosen today. The whole class is against me, especially Marcus. He's been wanting me to get picked and I've survived for at least two weeks up until now. Emily got up to read the blog and after she was done she chose me. I was tired and too lazy to get up. I packed my things and got up. I started walking up to the desk and hoped Marcus hasn't gotten picked that way I could pick him next. I sat down and started writing the blog.

Meanwhile Ms. Nakada walked around checking Reading Journal's while students were reading. I just sat thinking about what to write. I hated Marcus at the moment. Ms. Nakada told us to get out our Chromebooks and take the Week 9 QQSL quiz. We all opened our Chromebooks and took the quiz. After we got done with the quiz, Ms. Nakada let us into groups. Declan then gave me the idea to choose Janeth for the next blog. Milan came up to hate on me. She's just mad I'm Batman.

Ms. Nakada passed out a paper to do research on. We were doing research on a black author. Some people were doing this in a group and others alone. To be honest, I kind of forgot who I was doing this on. I asked Ms. Nakada and once I figured out I was locked in. She then let us chose between moving into Literature Circles or keep working and we chose to keep working. After about 20 minutes, Ms. Nakada told us to pack up. The bell rang, and the whole class was still chaotic. Some students, like Lucas, came up and gave Nakada money for pizza. Everyone sat down in their seats, and Ms. Nakada dismissed us by sides. We left the class and went to fourth period.

Emily's Fourth Blog

AGENDA

- Take a minute
- Blog corrections
- Reader's workshop
- Week 9: QQSL
- Literature circles

HW: RJ 9.4 Read or IXL/iReady for 20-30 minutes and record.

I walked into class already knowing that Violette would be choosing me for the blog. She told me at Nutrition I would be the blog writer for today. I came in class and remembered I had forgotten to do my readers journal for last nights reading and quickly wrote in the pages I read and my three summarizing words. Then, I took out my binder reminder and wrote down today's agenda. Violette came up to read her blog and when she was finished the class erupted in noise telling Violette to choose Omar. She didn't listen and still chose me. I packed up my belongings and sat down at the desk in the front of the class. After writing down the agenda, the computer randomly logged out, I came up to Ms. Nakada and asked if she could sign back in. Then, as I sat back down she asked me if I watched the game last night. I knew exactly what she was talking about because I did watch the game. It was the US vs Canada in the Women's Concacof Gold Cup semi-finals. It was a crazy game, with pouring rain making it super hard for the ball to move across the field. It ended up going into penalties after 30 minutes of extra time being a 2-2 tie. The US won penalties with the help of Alyssa Naehar, the goalkeeper that saved many shots and scored a penalty herself.

Ms. Nakada told everyone to take out their reading journals as she would make sure everyone has been filling them out as we took the time for Reader's Workshop. Everyone silently read. Next, Ms. Nakada told everyone to open up their English notebooks and add a page titled "Conducting and Presenting Research." We wrote down multiple steps on how to do a Research Project. Then, Ms. Nakada told us how we are going to do a Black Author Research Project. She explained that this year we were allowed to do it with a partner if we would like. She showed us the list and to discuss and think about who we want to do it on. Ms. Nakada showed us hers from last year. She did hers on Jerry Craft, and her presentation looked really good. We talked about who we would want to choose and if we were doing it with a partner or not.

We all moved into literature circles and Violette came over to my desk. Everyone talked in their literature groups, while me and Violette tried to figure out a good question for last nights reading. The bell rang, and everyone left for fourth period.

Week 9 QQSL

Literature circles

As I walked into third period English class, my stomach dropped because I knew that I was probably going to have to do the blog today. We all got settled into our seats and Noa came up to the front of the class to read her blog. I felt personally attacked though because she kept bringing up the fact that I forgot to read the day before. She then made a terrible pun about choosing me and I dreadfully packed up my things and left my seat.

As I sat down, trying to think of how to start this blog, I overheard Ms. Nakada talking about how it is hard to find cute bunnies, and how most of them look demonic. The class quickly quieted down though, and soon enough all you could hear was the clicking of the keys, and pages turning.

We transitioned into Quote, Question, Song, Line. Our lines of the week was a poem by Caitlyn Siehl called "It's Not Your Job." This poem is about beauty standards. The class had a deep conversation about what the poem means. I then got up to grab a tissue, and when I walked back, Devin kept making weird faces and side eyeing me.

The class then erupted into conversation as Ms. Nakada announced that we would be doing literature circles. Noa and Emily walked up to the desk I was at and peered over my shoulder, making sure that I didn't write anything bad about them. Then, we started talking about our book. Noa interrupted us to tell us about her brother's insane obsession with Michael Jackson. Ms. Nakada then said that we had one more minute until the bell, so we packed up and left.

HW: RJ 9.2 read or IXL/iReady for 20 - 30 minutes & record.

Today started out like normal. My friends and I were talking in the hallway and Tali was acting a little weird, but like I said that is normal. As we walked into Ms. Nakada class I remembered that Jessica was doing the blog. I had a feeling that I might get picked, but I wasn't sure if it would be me or Emily. Before Jessica was called up Ms. Nakada asked about Ms. K. The whole class erupted telling her how excited we are to have her back. Nothing against Mr. Z, but I'm glad I can actually learn a bit in math this year.

Once Jessica finished reading her blog, she chose me, so I walked up to the lonely table in the front of the room. To my surprise the blog was already open and ready for me to start typing away. We didn't do blog corrections so I'm guessing Jessica did a good blog. Everyone started doing silent reading, and Ms. Nakada checked everyone's reading journals for the night. At the moment I'm really hoping that Violette is getting her pages in. There is nothing much to report on at the moment, besides the sound of my typing and the sound of pages turning.

After silent reading ended, we took out our English notebooks so we can do the song in QQSL. Our song this week is "Respect" By Aretha Franklin.  A lot of us knew the song already and Akira shared about how one of her family members went against Aretha Franklin, but lost because her dad was the judge. After the song ends, we talk about what the song is about. We talk about how it's about respect in relationships and in the home. We also see that she, is providing for her family and if she doesn't get the respect she'll leave. Then, I turn to hear Violette share her favorite line, and she is looking at me funny and keeps raising her eyebrows.

Alejandro comes up to me and starts pestering me about how the blog is doing and we all move to literature circles. My group has to move with me to the now not lonely table and we start discussing what our clarifying words are, but Violette can't help because she didn't read, but it's all good because she's my BFF.  As everyone was chatting about their books, the bell rang. We quickly packed up and waited for Ms. Nakada to dismiss us. Violette keeps stealing the blog and trying to write that I am weird.... I'M NOT. SHE IS.

I hope everyone has a good fourth period!

Jessica's Fourth Blog

 Agenda:

- take a minute

- blog corrections

- reader's workshop

- week 9: Q.Q.S.L.

- lit. circles

HW: RJ 9.1 read or IXL/ iReady for 20-30 minutes & record

Today started off normal. I walked into English expecting nothing special to happen. We wrote down our Agenda and set up our Reading Journals for the week before Ms. Nakada called Riley up to read the blog. It was then that I remembered that Riley was going to pick me. My stomach sank, a growing dread filling me as Riley read her blog. Finally, she finished reading it with Declan reading some of it (I don't really know why). Then, I was called.

I packed up my things and came to start. Everyone was silent as I started the blog. The class was reading, everyone deep in the world of their books. Maybe I don't really know.  After silent reading we started Week 9: Q.Q.S.L.

The Quote of the week was by Malala Yousafzai, "We cannot all succeed when half of us are held back." We talked about how in Pakistan Malala was shot by people who didn't think she should go to school. This quote is talking about girls and women shouldn't be held back. She is saying that it's important to have educated women. Then we moved onto the question of the week.

The Question of the week was: How does media/ social media reinforce gender stereotypes? The class agreed that social media is different for everyone. Based on the types of video you watch you get similar videos to what you want to hear, reinforcing whatever you personally already believe only intensifying your preexisting beliefs. We talked about how the media can reinforce stereotypes with beauty standards and stay at home moms. It also shows men going into the wilderness and hunting reinforcing gender stereotypes also. We talked about how there were different mindsets everywhere and everyone has different opinions that can affect how others think. Then, Lucas told us that apparently he works at a skincare company! Who knew?

Next, we started literature circles. There was buzz in the room as everyone started discussing their various books with their groups.

Riley has a possum named Sandwich that she's babysitting for apparently, and she wanted me to say that, so yeah.

Everyone started to wrap up literature circles as Ms. Nakada told us to pack up. Then, the bell rang and it was off to fourth period.

・Reader's Workshop

・Week 8 Quiz

・Literature Circles

HOMEWORK

・Have a great weekend!

Everyone walked into third period after a very gloomy nutrition. As the bell rang, everyone sat down and wrote down the agenda in their Binder-Reminders. I'm having a hard time finding anything interesting to write about. Ms. Nakada pulls up a Head-space video, and encourages us to take a minute. Then, Tali comes up to read her blog. I must say, it was by far one of the best blogs done so far this semester by my standards!

Tali reads her blog, and everyone applauds as she walks back to her seat. Without even thinking, I just whisper to her and say, "Pick me, Tali!" I don't know why I said it, and I really regret it, but here I am, typing away to this blog about this class.

Tali's blog takes a long time to correct, not because there were a lot of mistakes, but because Ms. Nakada wasn't correcting it this time, it was some of the students.

As we got settled into reader's workshop, somebody let out a dreadful snarl, or something between a growl and a roar. Everyone started laughing, and apparently Akira let the demon overcome her soul. Ms. Nakada came around and checked everyone's binders and reading journals. The only thing audible is loud coughing, pages rustling, light whispering, and the keyboard typing.

This cat looks like a pillow with a head

Then, Ms. Nakada's booming voice shattered the peaceful silence as she forcefully told us to take out our computers to do the Week 8 Quiz. Everything takes much longer to do when you're doing the blog, I think to myself as I wait for what seems like an hour for everyone to finish the quiz. Some people discuss how hard the quiz was this week, like how the song name needed quotation marks and asterisks.

Ms. Nakada tells us with her loud voice to head into Literature Circles. Sammy and Alex come over and start infiltrating the blog.

"'I see you pooks.' Sammy interrogates Alex! Then all of a sudden Sammy ATTACKS Alex and challenges her to a duel. Where Alex wins and then Isaac jumps out of the toilet. Then Isaac challenges The most powerful Sammy and Alex to a dual, two shots later we get our shoulder and knees shot, Isaac wins. Then proceeds to ask where my hug at and rizzes up Charles while mewing." -Sammy & Alex

I have no idea who wrote that.

But anyways, Ms. Nakada finally tells us to pack up for the next class. Now we all just pack up and sit for five minutes.
